Kohna Zari Ko

Turning old to gold

Kohna Zari Ko means to turn old things into gold

Based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, Kohna Zari Ko is a mending and upcycling service led by the Migrant Women’s Group and The New Settlers Family and Community Trust (NFACT).

Kohna Zari Ko can undertake alterations, tailoring and unique sewing commissions, completed contactlessly and with care.

The importance of craft

Craft has the ability to cross language barriers and connect makers to cultural traditions that can be lost through migration.  Kohna Zari Ko helps our migrant and refugee community through activities incorporating traditional sewing and craft practices from our home countries which include Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan. Kohna Zari Ko activities open opportunities for friendship, education and connection.
